Spring Trends, To Wear or Not To Wear ...

Let's evaluate the spring trends.  Beginning with the #1 spring trend for 2011. BOLD colors.  Now i'm all in favor of adding a little color to your life.  I mean spring is the season of color!  But, if you're like me you lean on the conservative side of trends.  If you're a celebrity with a never ending bank account,  then you can afford to match a mustard top by Prada with your fuchsia shorts by Elie Tahari.  However, if you live in Louisville and you rocked that look people would think you were color blind or visiting from L.A. (no offense to my California friends).  However, I did find a few bold color dresses that I do love.  And if it's too much color for you, then opt for a bold necklace or purse to keep in with the trend.  This green strapless dress is my FAVORITE, even though the model looks miserable that she has to wear it.  This dress would be darling with a chunky necklace and gold bangles. It might actually be my Derby dress ;)
topshop.com $80
Another great dress for the season is this mustard dress from topshop.com.  I personally can't pull off this color, but if you can i say rock it!! You can steal Reese Witherspoon's style and wear red shoes with it too!
piperlime.com $78

If purple is more your style, which i love, then you should check out this dress from piperlime.com by MM Couture.
I was out shopping today and I have to say that I loved everything at one of my favorite boutiques, Collections in Westport Village.  If you are in the market for a beautiful mustard color dress, look no farther than this store.  They carry all of the top spring trends by affordable designers. If you haven't visited the store. I suggest you take a peek! I       scored two pretty cute dresses today!

Man, Prospect moms LIVE in workout clothes!

Some of you may be wondering what is the motivation behind this blog. Well, what started out as a bonding experiment between two friends just looking for an excuse to spend more time together, has now become my desperate attempt to cling to my youth. ;)

While at the park with my sister (my much younger, cuter, hipper sister)one day last week she repeated a comment one of her guys friends had said. "Man, Prospect moms LIVE in workout clothes." Emphasis on the live, disgust implied in the tone. As I looked down at myself, yup, I fit that to a T. I was in one of the 4 pairs of black stretchy workout pants that I rotate between and an Old Navy tank top. Ug. I looked over at Leon (the cuter, younger Leon) and she was at the park in a flowy white blouse, ankle jeans, and some flats. I didn't know what was worse, the fact that I was no iditifiable as a Mom by my dress, or the fact that it was so unorigional that I only have 4 pairs of pants in the rotation. Now, don't get me wrong, if I had been to the gym that day and had not changed yet, or maybe even if I had run up to the park my ensemble might have been acceptable. But I had not. I had changed into that outfit as soon as I set foot home from work. Or if it was a Saturday, as soon as I changed out of pjs. Sad really.

This blog was my opportunity to step up my game. Dressing up is no longer reserved for church or Derby. I am making it a mission to quit slacking on my appeareance and give up the sweatpants. At least 3 days a week. Babysteps.

My partner in crime Whitney is always on her game! She is that girl that you see in Kroger and think to yourself either (if you are me) "Geez I really need to get out of these sweatpants." or, if you are you, "Wonder where she got that outfit?"

OK, to be fair to myself, I have NEVER worn sweats with words across the butt.

Robeez- Are you kidding me!?

So Will has recently been moved up to the big boy room at school. On his second day his teacher sweetly asked me if Will had any shoes. Well of course he has shoes! What kind of mother does she think I am? He just never wears them... Apparently in this class room it is strictly no shoes, no service.

I really do have tons of shoes for him. All gifts, lucky boy! By the way, I don't know why shoes are not given as gifts in adult life. I enjoy shoes. Anyway, the first day I send him in some Adidas that perfectly matched his Adidas track suit he was wearing. (Hey maybe it was not only going to be that day that he walked but he might want to dribble a soccer ball while he was up.) It was a 5 minute struggle to get them on each foot. You can imagine my dismay when over the course of our 30 second drive to school he had already removed both of them from his feet.

Long story shorter, I found a pair of Robeez in his shoe wardrobe and they worked! They stay on until I take them off! Of course, since he is not walking around in these shoes he is dragging them across the ground all day while crawling, they were completely trashed within 2 weeks.

Where does shopping come in to all this? Robeez retail for $22 online. While that would be a great deal for a pair of shoes for me, I wear mine for considerably longer than 2 weeks. I hit up The KidsStuff Consignment sale on Friday. I was a woman on a mission. I went straight to the shoe bins and grabbed all of the Robeez-like shoes I could find.

All 5 pairs for $20 total! Mission accomplished. Crawl away my young "friend".

If you have never been to a KidStuff sale it is worth it if you are looking for specific things. In the past I have scored a Baby Bjorn for $7 and an assorment of hard books dirt cheap. The sales are seasonal and in different locations throughout KYANA. If you have stuff to buy or sell I suggest signing up for their email notifications at

All of that for some freakin Robeez!

Ocean dream dress

Is it just me or does this dress remind anyone of the beach? Beautiful blue color, light airy fabric, soft waves ... Dont know about you, but makes me want another Mai Tai while I bury my toes in the sand. Maybe in Fiji, or one those French islands ... Oops, back to the task at hand. This is the perfect spring wedding dress, paired with a few gold bangles and the sloane enamel bangle (from Stella & dot, $59) and a pair of cute strappy gold heels and you're set!

Thanks for this post Whit! Looks like a winner of a bridesmaid dress to me!

While I am on here I will share my find of the week as well. The cold weather and 3 kids between us kept both of us in this weekend! My find was online as well. Lets be honest, with kids, work, and life in general sometimes that is the only way to shop! I have to say I prefer hitting up the local boutiques and will be sharing about our girls night out at Westport Village soon!

Back to the task at hand... Here is the dress I will be wearing in said May wedding. (unless, of course I can no longer get it over my everexpanding self!)

The Little Dipper Dress
www.modcloth.com $57.99

While both Whit's find and mine are one shoulder the Little Dipper Dress in more structured than the Pacific Wavelets.

This is my FAVORITE piece of the spring collection and would look awesome with navy!!

The Boca Phenomenon

This is the Boca Necklace w/ Bee Brooch from Stella & Dot 2010 Spring Line.  A cute necklace, no doubt.  Versatile. It can be worn with or with out the Bee.  Swap in a different brooch, long, doubled, tripled.  I see the allure.  Unfortunately it is discontinued!  In the past 24 hours I have tracked down 3 of them for clients who just had to have this necklace!  I know, I know, this necklace screams Spring and we KY girls are ready for Spring about Feb 15th.  Moral of the story is...  If you are eyeing a piece of stella & dot jewelry you better snag it now because you will have your poor stylist trolling the Internet trying to track down a sample for you!  Here are some of this Spring's favorites that can be found at:

H&M Trip and Ribbons & Rags Trunk Show!!

Well last weekend Whit and I hit up the shops at Westport Village in our hunt for navy dresses.  We came up empty handed, but this week we have fared better!  Saturday, Whit, Cole, and I packed in the Edge for a trip up 71 to visit H&M.  Deals were had by all.  I was jealous that they were able to pick out cute white jeans and little summer blouses.  All I could get were the super long tanks to cover my growing belly!  Check out our 2 bridesmaid finds below, both under $40!!

The run of navy dress good luck did not end there!  Tonight I walked up to Ribbons & Rags (with my shopping buddy Will...) for the hEADcANDi Trunk Show.  I was inspired to make this wedding find do double duty as a derby look!   I also was sick of seeing myself as model so Meghan at Ribbons & Rags was kind enough to dress up a manequien for me!

Ribbons & Rags had tons of Derby dresses and you can find them at
 9428 Norton Commons Blvd
Prospect, KY 40059
and on Facebook

hEADcANDi by b. Lynn designs
is making custom hats and headbands that can be found at
Ribbons & Rags, Croquis, Bella Rose (Lexington), & Petunia (Jeffersonville, IN)
You can reach her on Facebook or HEADCANDIBYBLYNN@GMAIL.COM

My shopping buddy got caught up it all the hat festivity!

I snagged this little Banana Republic number at the Gap Outlet (2050 Global Way  Hebron, KY) for $19.99!!  If you have never been to the Gap Outlet it is a true outlet of return and damages.  You can snag some serious bargains but watch out for giant holes and stains!  This dress will be good as new after a trip to the dry cleaner!

So, we have 4 down and four to go.  Stay tuned!

Mission Bridesmaids!

Ok, here is our first challenge. A late may wedding. 8 bridesmaids. One 5 months preggo (ok that one will be me, teehee). Eight different, cute, church appropriate navy blue dress. This is our mission should we choose to accept it....

Kirribilla Dresses!!

So my sis Leon and I were in Napa this summer and happened into Heaven...  Yes Heaven was exactly like I imagined!  It was a cupcakerie/clothing boutique.  The jewlery and little handbags were displayed on cake stands (wish I had pictures for you!).  There was a fully stocked cupcake bar, from which Leon picked pink champagne and I picked Boston Creme Pie.  Both were delicious but it is the Pink Champagne that she has Ashlicious Cakes (you can find her on facebook!)trying to re-create for her wedding.  Anywhoooo...  The next best find to be had at said little slice of heaven was Kirribilla Dresses. http://www.shop.kirribilla.com/

Oh, thoughts of Derby are swimming in my head!!

Meg Signing off!
